If I had, I might have better understood a sign I recently encountered in what I assume is an Irish neighborhood. Things get complicated when the deceased person\u2019s estate is insufficient to cover the costs:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>If the deceased had no assets or property, it falls on the next of kin to pay for the funeral costs. However, no one is legally on the hook to pay funeral expenses unless they sign an agreement to that effect. As such, family members cannot be forced to pay for a funeral, which means that a husband or wife is not liable for paying their spouse\u2019s funeral costs, and children are not responsible for paying funeral expenses for their parents. In most cases, family members come up with a financial plan to bury their loved one, but this process can be fraught with conflict. If monetary resources are limited or non-existent, then there is no funeral service.<\/p>\r\n    <div class=\"single-content-banner\">\r\n                                    <a href=\"https:\/\/funeralocity.com\/average-funeral-price\" class=\"single-content-banner__image\">\r\n                    <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"desktop\" src=\"https:\/\/www.funeralocity.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/Banner_1_desktop.png\" alt=\"Compare the cost of funerals in your city\">\r\n                    <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"tablet\" src=\"https:\/\/www.funeralocity.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/Banner_1_tablet.png\" alt=\"Compare the cost of funerals in your city\">\r\n                    <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"mobile\" src=\"https:\/\/www.funeralocity.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/Banner_1_mobile.png\" alt=\"Compare the cost of funerals in your city\">\r\n                <\/a>\r\n                        <\/div>\r\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"d6a4\">One way to interpret the sign is to assume that the town seeks to remind its residents of their responsibility to \u201cplan ahead.\u201d I also suspect that the town hopes to minimize problems caused when someone dies and nobody steps forward with a checkbook.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"1ce6\">Finnegans Wake<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"493c\">Lest anyone reading this article decide to consult&nbsp;<em>Finnegans Wake<\/em>, I advise against it. Here is what&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Finnegans_Wake\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Wikipedia&nbsp;<\/a>says:<\/p>\r\n    <div class=\"single-content-banner\">\r\n                                    <a href=\"https:\/\/funeralocity.com\/cremationclub\" class=\"single-content-banner__image\">\r\n                    <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"desktop\" src=\"https:\/\/www.funeralocity.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/Banner_2_desktop.png\" alt=\"Advanced directive planning - for peace of mind\">\r\n                    <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"tablet\" src=\"https:\/\/www.funeralocity.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/Banner_2_tablet.png\" alt=\"Advanced directive planning - for peace of mind\">\r\n                    <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"mobile\" src=\"https:\/\/www.funeralocity.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/Banner_2_mobile.png\" alt=\"Advanced directive planning - for peace of mind\">\r\n                <\/a>\r\n                        <\/div>\r\n\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>The entire book is written in a largely idiosyncratic language which blends standard English words with neologic portmanteau words, Irish mannerisms and puns in multiple languages to unique effect. Many critics believe the technique was Joyce\u2019s attempt to recreate the experience of sleep and dreams, reproducing the way concepts, people, and places become amalgamated in dreaming. It is an attempt by Joyce to combine many of his aesthetic ideas, with references to other works and outside ideas woven into the text; Joyce declared, \u201cEvery syllable can be justified.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"a5c1\">It took Joyce 17 years to write&nbsp;<em>Finnegans Wake<\/em>.
