Please explain the four funeral service types on the website.

Funeralocity gives you the ability to compare funeral homes by four funeral service types offered:

A traditional burial with viewing and funeral service typically involves a visitation or wake prior to the funeral, where friends and family gather to pay respects, a service at either a church or funeral home chapel, a drive to the gravesite and a committal service there prior to the burial.

A burial with a graveside service typically consists of a drive to the gravesite and a commital service there prior to the burial.

A cremation with viewing and funeral service typically includes a visitation prior to the funeral, where friends and family gather to pay respects, a service at either a church or funeral home chapel, a drive to the crematory and the delivery of the ashes (referred to as cremains) following the cremation.

A direct cremation typically includes removal of the deceased from the place of death, transfer to the crematory, cremation services, and the delivery of ashes (referred to as cremains) following the cremation.

All funeral services listed include the services of the funeral home in preparing the deceased and arranging the type of service desired.


How do I receive my 5 percent on-the-spot rebate?

The invoice you receive from the funeral home will reflect a 5 percent discount off the funeral home provided goods and services. The rebate does not apply to third-party expenses, typically handled by the funeral home on your behalf, such as flowers and obituaries. If the on-the-spot rebate is not reflected, please contact Funeralocity at (888) 842-9009.


Can I contact the funeral home directly and still get the 5 percent on-the-spot rebate?

No. You must connect to the funeral home through funeralocity.com to receive the rebate.


Do I need to print anything out or take anything with me to the funeral home to get my rebate?

No. You will automatically receive the 5 percent on-the-spot rebate at the time you pay for the funeral arrangements.


How does the discount work if I pre-plan my funeral?

If you plan and pre-fund your funeral, through either an insurance policy or a trust, the 5 percent on-the-spot-rebate will be reflected as a discount in the total amount of the goods and services you select and pre-pay for, except for the third-party expenses the funeral directors offer as a courtesy.

If you simply make your wishes known, no contract is completed and prices are not locked in, the 5 percent will be deducted at the time the funeral takes place, at the current prices of the goods and services that are selected at that time.


Is there a cost to use Funeralocity?

No. Our service is free to you.


What if I change my mind and don’t want to use the funeral home I selected on Funeralocity?

It is always your choice to make arrangements or not with a funeral home you select from our site. If you click through to or meet with a funeral home that you decide not to use, you can return to funeralocity.com to select another funeral home.


Can I contact more than one funeral home?

Yes. If you click through to request contact with multiple funeral homes, they will each be made aware of your request, and you will be put in touch with all of them.


Are any items included in the packages optional?

The packages we show are typical items associated with common types of funeral services. All funeral homes have a basic service fee, which is mandatory, but beyond that, you are free to work with the funeral home you select to choose exactly what you want. The pricing provided on the site provides you with the ability to make comparisons among funeral homes.


What are cash advance items?

Cash advance items are third-party charges that a funeral home arranges on your behalf as a courtesy. These typically include flowers, placing an obituary in a local newspaper, memorial cards or program printing, etc. If you choose a cremation from a funeral home that does not have a crematory on site, the fee from the actual crematory may also be a cash advance item.


How do I provide a review for a funeral home?
